New beginnings in Target Field

August 10, 2010 Posted by admin

I was excited when the Minnesota Twins drafted Joe Mauer in the June 2001 Amateur Draft. Everybody said the Twins should have drafted the ‘sure thing’ Mark Prior, but there’s no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to Major League Baseball. With it being nearly a decade since that June draft, Joe Mauer is an All Star for the Minnesota Twins, and Mark Prior’s career is likely over after a series of arm injuries. I tried finding the articles to contact those writers who criticized the Twins organization for not drafting Prior, but I couldn’t find them. Joe Mauer sure looks great in Target Field.

Target Field is a beautiful ballpark, and I’m happy the Twins finally have a home of their own. In the early part of the decade, we almost lost them. Bud Selig was discussing contraction of two teams, and the Twins were one of the teams that were mentioned, but today the franchise couldn’t be any different than it was back then. Ticket prices at Target Field are way higher than the Metrodome. Combined with the fact that tickets are sold out through September and likely the playoffs, I’ve enjoyed the inaugural season at Target Field by watching it on my Directtv satellite TV. I’ll show my support just as much as if I was there in person.
